JEDDAH: Host, International Indian School, Jeddah ruled the roost by winning championships in football, volleyball and basketball at the CBSE Inter-School Cluster Meet held recently.
Fifteen Indian schools from all over the Kingdom had qualified at the regional level to participate in this phase.
In football IISJ met IISD after they beat New Al-Wurood International School 7-1 in the semifinal. IIS, Dammam had defeated IIS, Riyadh in the other semis.
IISJ dumped IISD by 2-1 in the final played at the Al-Ittihad Stadium. Both the goals were scored by Master Shabin through free kicks. IISJ scored both the goal in the first half. Dammam boys, tried hard to pulled one back and later strove hard for the equalizer which eluded them.
In Volleyball too, the IISJ Spikers faced IISD defeated IIS Damam 25-15, 25-18, 30-28. Earlier, IISJ had defeated IIS, Jubail and IISD had defeated IISR in the semifinals.
It is to be noted that IISJ has been the volleyball champion in the cluster for the past five years.
In basketball final, IISJ routed IIS, Jubail 94-31.
Nevertheless, the impressive 3 pointers scored by Master Amru of IIS, Jubail were a solace for the runner-up. In basketball too, IISJ team won the championship for the fourth consecutive year.
While IISJ was invincible in all the outdoor games, IIS, Dammam had their say in badminton. Dammam boys won the first place in all the three categories while their girls won the first position in under-16 category.
Under-19 girls of IIS, Riyadh won the first place in badminton while it was NMEIS, Riyadh which won the grist place in under-14 Girls’ badminton.
Host Principal Syed Masood Ahmed welcomed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Raghib Qureshi, (Head of Chancery – CGI Jeddah and School Observer) congratulated the winners and stressed upon the importance of sports.
Hasan Ghias (Member of the Higher Board of International Indian Schools in the Kingdom) advised the participants to always set higher goals that require stretched efforts. He pointed out that sports are a necessary requirement for leadership.
Chairman of the School Managing Committee Mohammed Raziq Abdul Vahid distributed the trophies and the medals along with the chief guest and members of the managing committee.
Presenting the report, the coordinator for the meet, Ghouse Mohiuddin stated that out of 39 CBSE-affiliated schools in the Kingdom, 15 qualified in the regional competitions to participate at the Cluster level.
