Kuwait is one of the most exciting countries to visit in the Arabian Gulf region. The city is a beautiful blend of cultures, food, modern architecture and historic sites and is home to some of the world’s finest shopping centers.

Kuwait is located in the northeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It is one of the smallest countries in the world in terms of land area. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south, and Iraq to the north. It lies on the northwestern shore of the Persian Gulf.

The country is divided into six governorates: Kuwait city (capital), Al-Ahmadi, Al-Farwaniyah, Al-Jahra, Hawalli and Mubarak Al-Kabeer.

It’s always a good time to visit Kuwait as the country holds different activities throughout the year. In February there is the famous shopping, entertainment and music festival ‘Hala February.’

There are a number of exciting things to do and places to visit when in Kuwait, starting with the Grand Mosque, which is the largest mosque in the state of Kuwait. The mosque can accommodate up to 10,000 men in the main prayer hall and up to 1,000 women in a separate hall. The architecture inside the mosque is wonderful and elegant. A tour of the mosque can easily consume 90 minutes. Women must cover, but they do provide abayas for you.

The Kuwait Towers: These are three towers located on the Arabian Gulf Road in the heart of Kuwait city. The main tower is 187 meters above sea level and it includes restaurants, cafes and halls. The middle tower measures 147 meters and is a water tower with a capacity of one million gallons in its spherical reservoir. The smallest tower is 113 meters above sea level and contains equipment to control the flow of electricity and lighting for the first and second tower and surrounding grounds.

Those towers are a must-see as they are the main symbol of Kuwait. They represent Kuwait’s progressive and economic renaissance and are a major tourist landmark.

A more fun activity is heading to the famous Aqua Park that was built in 1995 and is the first and biggest water park in the GCC region. The park is spread over a surface area of 60,000 square meters and is located on the Arab Gulf Street neighboring the Kuwait Towers. It is only open and operating during summer time.

Visitors are offered different kinds of activities at the water park such as paint ball and go-karts at the speed zone and a park beach. Other fun activities here include beach football, soap football, beach volleyball courts and paintball. The adventure area offers 14 moving rides and children’s pools. The middle area includes a lazy river and a waves pool for a splashy way to cool off on any summer day.

Shopping in Kuwait is one of the best things to do, the city offers many international and local retail boutiques. One of the famous malls in Kuwait is the 360 Mall, which hosts several social initiatives including social gatherings and entertainment events. The 360 Mall showcases the best of international, regional and local retailers to create a delightful experience for visitors of all ages. Its shopping, entertainment and leisure components are of top quality.

Another amazing mall is The Avenues Mall, which is the largest mall in Kuwait. It includes some of the world’s most popular fashion stores as well as restaurants, coffee shops, a hypermarket, entertainment venues and an 11-screen cineplex.

As for authentic local markets, Souk Al-Mubarakiya is the oldest market and the heart and soul of Kuwait. It’s located between Mubarak Al-Kabir, Ahmad Al-Jaber and Ali Al-Salem Streets in Kuwait City. The street market is an educational sight that enlightens its visitors about Kuwait’s heritage, food and clothing.

The market is divided into different sections. The fish market offers seafood from Saudi Arabia, Iran and of course, Kuwait. The vegetable and fruit section offers the local Kuwaiti harvest and there is also a food section for people who are looking for an authentic Kuwaiti meal in a real Kuwaiti atmosphere. The souk is divided into small shops, each offering something unique and different — from spices, clothing and beads to home supplies and accessories.

The Kuwait National Museum is a must see if you want to learn more about the country’s culture and history. You can catch a glimpse of the customs, traditions and heritage of Kuwait. The museum is designed as a mud house, displaying the old Kuwaiti life in all its manifestations including the old souq, pearl diving, ship building, ethnographic artifacts and archaeological material. The Kuwait National Museum planetarium is a place where you can find space-related objects and enjoy a view of the Milky Way galaxy in the 15-meter sky theater.

Another must see museum is the Al-Qrain Museum that specializes in artifacts, which are displayed in three main halls including the Martyrs Gallery Hall, which has pictures of the Almessela group of martyrs, their weapons and clothes, and a movie theater hall that screens documentaries about the Iraqi invasion in both Arabic and English. The last hall is the Iraqi invasion hall, which has documents as well as cars belonging to the Iraqi detectives besides a library of books on the invasion.

The Kuwait Traditional Museum displays the real social, political, economic and religious lives of the Kuwaiti people as well as the interactions of the marine, bedouin as well as urban and rural elements that shaped life in the country.

The Scientific Center is an interesting place to visit for the whole family. The children will fall in love with the activities there. It houses the largest aquarium in the Middle East with a 1.5 million liter tank that holds over 100 different species of animals, fish, corals and sharks. The aquarium takes you on a tour of three different environments. All three sections provide specimens of animal, plant, and marine life of that particular environment.

The center also contains IMAX cinema rooms that show 45 minutes of animal documentary. A discovery place helps children and adults learn more about science through interactive games and activities. Dhow Harbor houses the only surviving Kuwait ship from the pre-oil era boom, which gives the visitor a fundamental taste of Kuwait heritage.
