Tokyo: Typhoon Bolaven was Sunday edging closer to the southern Japanese island of Okinawa, bringing downpours accompanied
by strong winds to the region, the Meteorological Agency said.
Stormy weather travelling ahead of Typhoon Bolaven, the 15th of the season, had already engulfed Okinawa and nearby islands, the agency said, warning of record rains and waves up to 12 metres.
Two people suffered storm-related injuries in Okinawa, the Kyodo
News agency reported.
All flights to and from Naha, the capital of Okinawa, and ships linking the island with others were cancelled, Kyodo said.
