A Jeddah General Court judge allowed four female law graduates to attend a hearing in the case of Ahmad Al-Gizawi, an Egyptian citizen, on Wednesday.
Al-Gizawi was arrested at Jeddah’s airport and accused of attempting to smuggle drugs. The King Abdul Aziz University’s newly graduated lawyers recorded the proceedings during the court session.
The court rejected a lawyer’s request to release a Saudi defendant involved in the case. Two defendants involved in the case were present along with Al-Jizawi.
During the hearing, two Saudi customs agents testified that they found Xanax tablets stashed in the defendant’s belongings. They said they found the drugs inside a box of Quran copies and milk cartons. “I searched his belongings and I discovered the drugs while a colleague was besides me,” said one of the agents.
The court received a medical report on Al-Jizawi stating there was no signs of injury on him.
