LUCKNOW, India: Graduates, post-graduates and even Ph.D. holders are among the 2.3 million applicants vying for the post of office boy in Uttar Pradesh government secretariat.

A record of sort was created after the UP government, which advertised for 368 posts of office boys in the secretariat, was deluged with CVs.

The minimum educational requirement for the post of office boy is a Class 5 certificate and the candidate must know how to ride a bicycle.

It is not known how many of the post graduates can ride a bicycle.

"When we categorized the applications vis-a-vis a qualification, we were surprised to find that 255 doctorates have applied for the job," a senior secretariat administration official said. He said that while more than 150,000 graduates have applied for the job, the number of post graduates is 24,969. The officer said that initially it was decided to hold recruitment through interview.
