Jeddah's 500 pieces of artwork continue to amaze visitors because they are maintained on a regular basis, a municipality official said here recently.

The pieces can be found in different parts of Jeddah, especially on the Corniche, adding to the beauty of the Bride of the Red Sea, he said.

Saudi, Arab, American and European artists created the artwork, including sculptor Henry Moore of Britain, French artists Victor Valery and Cesar Baldaccini, Spanish sculptor Joan Miro, American artist Alexander Calder and German Jean Arp.

The Jeddah municipality regularly maintains these landmarks with the support of private companies.

“We have selected ideal locations to establish these beautiful landmarks,” he said. There is one location with 26 pieces that were created in the 1980s, he said.

“The Jeddah Museum was established in 2011 and 21 pieces were taken to a workshop there to refurbish them,” the official said.

One piece on the Corniche was created to visualize the couplets of Saudi poet Hamza Shahata, which were dedicated to Jeddah, he said.
