Hong Kong-based handbag designer, Piecco Pang and New York-based painter, Antoinette Wysocki are exhibiting their collaborative works at Pro Art Gallery at the Palm Strip Shopping Mall in Dubai until June 20.
The exhibition “Full Spectrum” is a tandem of fashion and art. Piecco Pang first met expressionistic painter Antoinette Wysocki at her art opening in Hong Kong and a strong creative connection was formed. Deciding to hone in on their love for fashion, function and art, they agreed to collaborate their visions of colliding art and fashion creating limited edition handbags, designed by Pang, that feature abstract paintings created by Wysocki.
“This is the first time Pro Art Gallery is showcasing such a wonderful combination of not only artists, but two diverse art forms. The collections are set to make a huge mark in the art world in the UAE and we foresee a tremendous amount of interest in this unique exhibition,” said Tatiana Faure, owner and founder of Pro Art Gallery
Antoinette Wysocki employs mixed media on organic materials. Wysocki, who has shown in New York, London and Hong Kong, has removed herself from the confines of only stretched canvas and turned equal attention to working on rag. The artist has developed a process of combining various materials, chance, control and analysis in her pieces. In each of her works, Wysocki creates a balance between the media and absorption rate of the surface, so that the various materials interact, binding or refracting from each other and the paper or linen.
Piecco Pang began to design and create unique, personalized clutch bags for a close group of personal friends. Transcending his profession as a private banker, what began as a hobby soon established Pang’s reputation as one of Hong Kong’s top bespoke clutch bag designer.
“There are many other well-known collaborations between artists and fashion designers. Louis Vuitton worked with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, Yves Saint Laurent had a Mondrian Collection and Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli designed with artist Salvador Dali,” said Nabil Sammer, assistant manager of Pro Art Gallery.
Pro Art Gallery often conducts art exhibitions. The recently concluded “Contemporary Turkish Art Exhibition’’ had attracted a large number of visitors. The event showcased over 30 selected artworks of both upcoming and acclaimed Turkish artists such as Devrim Erbil, Arzu Akgun, Demir Kardas and Murat Germen.
Arzu Akgun’s paintings on wood blocks were the main attraction at the exhibition and “Model VI” was one of the best pieces. By re-interpreting the traditional wood block printing technique, Arzu Akgun has developed a unique method of art.
“The exhibition provided visitors a chance to discover the historical development in Turkish art,” said Tatiana Faure.
Pro Art Gallery has showcased works of artists such as Carlos Nadal, Pablo Picasso, Fernando Botero, Damien Hirst, Marc Chagall, Tyeb Mehta, S.H. Raza, Banksy, Andy Warhol, Alberto Giacometti, Bernard Buffet, and many more.
