Fifteen students from Bangladesh International School Jeddah (BISJ) will get the chance of a lifetime by witnessing the inauguration of US President Barack Obama for his second term in office on Jan. 21 in Washington DC.
The event is part of a youth leadership program run by a consortium of 18 leading American and global universities.
The trip was announced at a press conference on Monday at the school by Abdul Kaium, vice principal of BISJ.
The students will also get to hear the keynote address by Colin Powell, the former US secretary of state and army general.
“The BISJ students will be taught leadership skills by the leaders who run the planet,” said Kaium.
He added that leading US universities have produced people like Obama, Microsoft owner Bill Gates and former US President Bill Clinton.
“The journey does not end here, these students will be awarded with invaluable achievement certificates for participating in these programs. We know that academic excellence alone can no longer pull a career to the top in professional life. Universities require both academic prowess and leadership qualities in their future students,” he said.
Kazi Neamul Bashir, the chairman of BISJ, said that the students will get invaluable advice from the world’s leading career counselors.
“Students will become more confident, more culturally aware. It’s an achievement for the BISJ and students, of whom we are proud,” he said.
