Power and Water Utility Company Marafiq received 2 large desalination Units in Yanbu, imported and shipped through King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu.

Marafiq’s CEO Thammer Al-Sharhan said that those 2 Units, weighing around 1,817 tons each, depend on the evaporation multi effect that has been manufactured by the Korean Doosan Co.

“Contract of building the 2 Units was signed on August 2011, to meet the growing demand in the industrial city of Yanbu on drinking water and water needed for the industrial process of affiliates. We aim to increase production capacity of the company facilities in Yanbu Industrial City to approximately 192.240 cubic meters per day, where the actual production of these two units will began in the second quarter of 2013 with a production capacity estimated approximately 55,000 cubic meters per day, 37 percent increase from the current production”, he said.

Once manufacturing the units, a grand ceremony held in Korean Doosan for the occasion of launching the largest evaporator for desalination units using vaporation multi effect in the Doosan in South Korea in the presence of VP of Doosan and general manager of primers and a representative from the Department of operation and maintenance in Yanbu.

The journey of shipping the 2 units took in the sea about 40 days, while these units are of the largest equipment that arrived to King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu.

Marafiq is one of the leading companies for this type of seawater desalination plants (desalination evaporation effect) after operation of the cogeneration plant in Jubail, which contains 27 units-effect evaporation desalination.
