Oman Air’s substantial support for sporting achievement throughout 2013 has been recognized at a ceremony in Muscat.

The airline was presented with Silver Award by Oman’s Minister of Sports Affairs Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed Al Mardhouf Al Saadi, at the annual Sports Awards Gala.

The ceremony brought together sports stars, sports officials, sponsors and many dignitaries to celebrate a year of success at every level of the Omani sporting world.

Oman Air GM Marketing Mohammed Mubarak Al-Shikely said: “We are honored to receive this award and delighted that Oman Air has been able to offer our support to so many remarkable athletes and sports people.

“As the national carrier of Oman, it is vital that we continue to back not just the high-profile Omani sports stars of today, but also to help enthuse and enable the stars of the future. Our backing of Ahmad Al-Harthy’s remarkable motorsports career, Oman Sail’s global challenges and the Omani national football team have been accompanied by support for local sporting endeavors, and it has been a source of pride for everyone at Oman Air to see the impact that their work had.

“I would particularly like to pay tribute to Raiya Al-Habsi, who was the first-ever Omani woman to take part in the extremely challenging Rolex Fastnet Race, aboard the Oman Air-Musandam trimaran in August. She is an inspiration and a wonderful example for the sports people of tomorrow.
