KYM DOUGLAS and Cindy Pearlman are back with a sequel to the bestselling “The Black Book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets”.
“’The Black Book of Hollywood Diet Secrets’ provides tips that you can easily incorporate into your lifestyle. We’re not telling you to go on a radical plan, because diets don’t work. You lose weight when you make good daily choices that swing the scale in your favor. We interviewed A-lists stars and their trainers and nutritionists because celebs have no choice but to stay in shape; it’s their job.”
Halle Berry admits that her exercise programs are as much for peace of mind as it is for her famous figure: “You have to tell yourself that you can. You can do it. I go through phases where for three weeks I don’t work out or I’m traveling and I can’t work out. It’s hard to get back into it. But I guarantee you that once you start the endorphins your body releases will allow you to be excited about doing it again. It’s really a good feeling. When you start feeling strong and healthy, it becomes addictive. I’m addicted to feeling good” she says.
Michelle Pfeiffer, the legendary screen beauty, loves a Mexican food dinner: “I’ll eat all of the chips in the bowl. And then order another bowl…Of course you can’t do that every day, but you have to give yourself these little breaks. I don’t think men really want women to be doing all of this stuff to themselves, to be undernourished and bony and all this grotesque plastic surgery. Why are we doing this to each other? Young women have such a big challenge ahead of them now and it doesn’t seem like the trend is going away,” Pfeiffer says.
Eva Longoria admits that she loves brownies. She eats them all the time, and even bakes them, too. “Don’t get on me,” she says with a laugh: “I work out like a mad woman, so I deserve a few brownies. All women deserve a few brownies! I work out three to four times a week.”
Incidentally, Longoria wasn’t always such a beautiful woman. “I didn’t blossom until after college” she says. “I think that was a blessing. It made me depend on my personality and humor instead of my looks. Now I beg girls to please not focus on superficiality. Looks fade. But intelligence and personality last forever.”
Catherine Zeta-Jones admits that she loves a good heavy sandwich when she’s having a guilty-food-pleasure sort of day.
“I’m obsessed with smoked salmon sandwiches made on brown bread with potato chips crushed down in the middle between the lox and the bread.”
This gorgeous actress has a great figure. She is curvy but doesn’t have an ounce of fat so what is she doing to work off that snack? “Actually, I love to work out.” Zeta-Jones says. It keeps my brain sane and gives me energy. I’m always mixing up walking, working out in a gym and swimming. I don’t do any routine two days in a row, but I do make sure to work out five times a week. That’s my biggest tip. Get to the gym five days a week and just do something, so you don’t get bored. I do have to drag myself to the gym like everyone else, but when I finish I always say, “Wow, I enjoyed that so much. Isn’t that always the way? I can eat more smoked salmon sandwiches on brown bread if I work out.”
Lisa Lillien started the successful blog: hungrygirl.com. In addition to her 300,000 plus online fans, she has a weekly column in the New York Daily News and People Style Watch magazine.
One of her best diet tips is not to deprive ourselves for long periods of time. This is frustrating and unrealistic. There is something empowering about allowing you something fattening and then getting right back on track.
Jaclyn Smith was one of Charlie’s original angels and she still looks very attractive. So how does she maintain such a good figure?
“I’m a breast cancer survivor and at least four days a week of aerobics cuts down on your risk of getting cancer. Plus it makes me feel so good. It clears my head. I do the treadmill or I’ll run in the park by my house…The key is staying active. I’m always on the move, which keeps me young and feeling great.” Jaclyn says.
Jennifer Lopez is so resoundingly normal. She talks without any complexes about her body: “I’m not a tall, size-three thin actress which is good. I think that’s a positive message, because how many people are size three? Hey, I’ll eat an extra piece of cake. I don’t need it, but I want it. I don’t deny myself, and I still feel attractive and beautiful,” Lopez says.
Monique Angela Hicks, better known as Mo’nique, began her career doing stand-up comedy and now stars in movies and TV shows. She gained fame for her role as Mary Lee Johnson in the film, “Precious”. If you ever mention the word diet in front of her, Mo’nique will answer that the first three letters of diet are “d-i-e-.”
“Baby, I love to chew food! Food is good! Diet. Please! Actually, I’m sick of this image in Hollywood where to be beautiful you have to be a size zero. I’m beautiful at my weight and I’m happy. I’ve had a guy in the past say,”oh, baby, but you have such a pretty face. If only you lost 20 pounds you’d be really pretty.” I’d think, “I’ll show you something not so pretty. Which is when I dump you?”
Which kind of food Mo’nique could never give up for any diet? Her answer is fried chicken.
“It’s the best thing in the world. Gimme some hot sauce on the top. Now excuse me, because I gotta go find a KFC.”
The newest trick in Hollywood is to brush up. Celebs now travel with toothbrushes that match their outfits and bring them wherever they go. This new trend was started by a nutritionist who told her starlet clients that brushing can help curb cravings in between meals and stop you from eating more than you should at the meal. The new taste in your mouth sends a signal to the brain that you are done eating.
And if you want a tip to curb your appetite, do like supermodels Heidi Klum and Cindy Crawford, and eat a salad sprinkled with vinegar before going out to dinner. The vinegar apparently kills you hunger pangs so you will not be tempted to eat those hot bread rolls with butter.
Queen Latifah readily admits that she loves to eat and she is simply not interested in losing weight!
“I’m not going to apologize for it. Eating is a pleasure for me. I’m never gonna be one of those stick-figures women. Definitely not…I remember when I was doing Living Single, I was brought into a meeting and asked to lose some weight.
I looked at the powers in charge and said one word: no! I look like normal people. I want to reflect a real woman out there. The people like me just the way I am.”
This book is not only entertaining but it is also filled with tips and secrets from film stars and celebrities. We also discover with a certain relief that when it comes to dieting Hollywood players have the same problems as everyone else and we are also delighted to learn that some famous actresses are not at all interested in loosing weight. They are just happy the way they are and so are we!
