Burgers are still one of the hottest trends in today’s dining scene. The burger has passed the test of time, it has been through recessions, ups and downs but its popularity remains consistent. An interesting study also shows that consumers are ready to pay more for a higher-quality burger.
The special burger craze began in 2001 when the famous French Chef Daniel Boulud stunned the culinary scene. And he did it with the most unlikely of dishes: The ubiquitous hamburger. He created the “db Burger”, the first “gourmet burger”, a sirloin stuffed with braised short ribs and foie gras on a Parmesan bun.
This creative and unprecedented burger sparked the beginning of a trend, which according to many analysts is not going to slow down. An increasing number of customers from all age groups want to eat a more sophisticated burger than the big chains offer. They are relying more than ever on restaurants to provide a higher-quality and tastier burger. Furthermore, it has to be said that gourmet burgers are not just for meat-lovers. Nowadays the sky is the limit when it comes to what constitutes a burger or in other words: what goes into a burger? “Tuna burgers”, “Crab burgers”, “Turkey burgers” or even a vegetarian version like the “Black Bean burger”, to name but a few, are both original and delicious options.
“Burger Boutique” which first opened in Kuwait in 2005 has a branch in the Saudi capital situated on Musa Bin Nusseir Street in Olaya. The restaurant is not very big and its décor is sleek and cool. Burger Boutique specializes in gourmet and customized burgers. The beef is grass-fed, certified organic. There are no preservatives, no nitrates, no GM foods. Even the menus are printed on recycled cardboard boxes and the napkins, cutlery, and wrappers for the burgers are all made from recycled material too.
A gourmet burger is still a burger and Burger Boutique’s menu features, of course, the classic burger which can be described as a nice, juicy beef patty, topped with cheese, sliced tomatoes, and lettuce, placed in a bun.
You can also create your own burger by choosing a beef or a chicken patty, then selecting your favorite home-made sauce and toppings such as House Pickled Chili or Cucumber, Caramelized Onion, Sweet relish to name but a few.
I ordered and enjoyed the delicious Swiss burger but I have yet to try the other signature burgers on the menu. To accompany the burgers you can choose from a variety of fries. Dynamite fries are served topped with house-made chili, cheddar, beef bacon, roasted onion and jalapeno & chipotle ranch. These fries are wild, hot and addictive too! You might also enjoy the Maple Sticky Buffalo Shrimps, these breaded shrimps are crunchy, light and also dangerously addictive!
I chose not to have a second burger so I would still enjoy a dessert! I always look at the dessert menu, first, to balance my options. The truth is that I can hardly resist a chocolate dessert! Burger Boutique does not offer a big selection of sweets but it has the most decadent and rich chocolate dessert, the “Chocolate Brownie Pudding”. The ingredients are deceptively simple, only eggs, butter, chocolate and flour but when this pudding is served hot, it is absolutely irresistible! And since there are so few calories, you might as well enjoy it with vanilla ice cream.
Whether you are a traditionalist or an adventure-seeker, you can rest assured that at Burger Boutique, the burger, this most enduring American culture staple is prepared with fresh ingredients for a better quality. Fresh is healthier, yes, but it also tastes better. And taste is king.
It is hard to guess whether this gourmet burger is a food trend or whether the traditional burger is undergoing an evolution. The truth is that the burger which has been dubbed “the blue jeans of comfort food” has still not lost its appeal. Burger Boutique gives the consumer all that is missing in chain burger restaurants, such as quality food, quality service and a stylish décor. And if that comes at a price, these premium burgers are well worth it!
