Tom Langa in the men’s division and Mia Cedotes in the ladies division distinguished themselves as the first Bowler of the Month winners at the start of the series of monthly tournaments leading up to the Bowler of the Year Championship.
This January tournament held recently at the Serafi Mall’s IN-10-SO lanes kicked off the monthlies for 2013 on the sidelines of the ongoing Friday afternoon league event of the Overseas Filpino Bowlers Club.
Langa, a Class D bowler who qualified eighth for the final, edged out Class B player Rudy Jamon in the two games with handicap sudden death final. Langa shot 426 to Jamon’s 424.
Jamon, who nailed the last qualifying spot, settled for the first runner-up prize.
Benj Espinosa and Jun de Dios, who are both beginning bowlers like Langa, was second runner-up and third runner-up on 419 and 399, respectively, while Class C Sol Cuenca rounded out the first five winners on 388. Cedotes was another rookie bowler to make an good impression after she won the ladies crown on 387, well in front of Vangie Lim 343 and Margie Villasanta, the eliminations topnotcher, and Jana Felesmina 33.
Under the tournament format players bowl four games in the elimination round to determine the top six and top 12 finalists for ladies and men regardless of classification.
The finalists then play a further two games with handicap to determine the winners.
OFBC Chairman Joel Nidoy thanked Makatifoods through Vov Stone and Petromin through Jerry “Ka Imo” Carredo for donating the prizes.
Petromin mugs were given t the 2 and 3 baggers for ladies and men respectively. Also, Nidoy said Bowler of the Month T-shirt will be distributed during the Bowler of the Year Championship in December.
