This is with reference to the article “When logic supersedes conscience” (Oct. 21) by Aylin Kocaman. I fully agree with the views expressed by the writer. The prevalent materialistic mindset is behind all the problems in this world. The ongoing refugee crisis has laid bare this mentality. To many world leaders and analysts, these refugees are nothing but statistics. Undoubtedly, many of our individual as well as global problems stem from our materialistic mindset.
It would be difficult for us to convince European leaders to do away with their materialistic mindset. So it would be better to talk to them in the language they understand. They should look into the refugee crisis from their material perspective. By accepting refugees, they will only contribute toward the progress of their countries. An increase in skilled manpower does not harm any country. Those elements who are fanning xenophobic sentiments are living in a fool’s paradise, as they are missing the big picture. — Jawwad Hussain, Riyadh
