MOSCOW: The fourth round of strategic dialogue between GCC foreign ministers and their Russian counterpart took place in Moscow on Thursday.
The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir and Sergei Lavrov, Russian foreign minister.
Among a wide range of items discussed, the ministers welcomed the initiative put forward by Russian President Vladimir Putin to establish an anti-terrorist front based on international legal standards and the UN Charter and operating with the consent and in close coordination with regional states that bear the brunt of terrorist attacks.
The ministers emphasized that relations between the GCC states and Iran should be based on the principles of good neighborliness, noninterference in internal affairs, respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, resolutions of disputes through peaceful means, according to the UN Charter and international law and renouncing of and refraining from the use or threat of use of force or provocations that might undermine confidence and threaten security and stability of the region.
The importance of establishing a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction was emphasized by the participating ministers.
