The Kingdom said that the United Nations must set a time frame for the ending of the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital.

In his speech about human rights violations in the Palestinian territories during the Human Rights Committee meeting in Geneva, Ambassador Faisal Trad said: “We meet today after more than one month since the convening of the Special Session XXI regarding the brutal Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, and gross violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

“These actions led the international political arena to convene a meeting with all contracting parties under the Fourth Geneva Convention to take steps to ensure the application of the convention to the occupied Palestinian territories, including east Jerusalem,” he said.

“Calls were made to take the necessary procedures to form an international investigative committee to uncover the truth about the crimes that Israel continues to carry out on Palestinians, but what has happened so far?” he continued.

“Has Israel stopped its violations against these patient people? Rather, the government of Israel— in blatant defiance of all humanitarian and international laws — has confiscated 2,000 dunams of land in the town of Yatta in Hebron, in addition to its decision to confiscate 4,000 dunams of land in Bethlehem and Hebron, and the destruction of factories and economic establishments.

Meanwhile,” he added, Jerusalem is exposed to dangerous aggression and arrest campaigns, in addition to the ongoing campaign of Judaization and settlement.

According to Ambassador Trad, unfortunately, a growing number of Western countries are insistent on cutting short discussions on the human rights situation in occupied Palestinian terrorists under Chapter VII, and turning the discussion to Chapters II and IV, thus reflecting the continuous attempts to hide the fact that Israeli occupation is an ongoing violation of human rights and that there is double standard when it comes to Israel.

“For this reason, we are confirming once again that Chapter VII is the main chapter on the committee’s agenda until the end of the Israeli occupation, and the Kingdom, will not accept under any circumstance, the disregarding of this Chapter,” he said.

He called on those countries trying to disregard this chapter to comply with their responsibilities under international laws to end the occupation and achieve a political solution free of punishment and bias.

Ambassador Trad also supported the request of the Palestinian state to the Swiss government to call all parties to the Geneva Convention for an immediate meeting that aims to confirm the responsibilities of all governments to respect the terms of the convention on occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, and protect the Palestinian people.
