There is in excess of 80,000 beneficiaries of the government land grants program (LGP) annually, the local media reported quoting a report released by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.
The number of land grants provided by the ministry through municipalities and governorates throughout the Kingdom has so far crossed the 2.2 million mark, the ministry said.
The total number of land plans approved by the ministry stands at 1,366 of which 755 are governmental and 611 are privately-owned plans. The number of approved lands in all cities of the Kingdom has totaled 370,715 housing land plots whereas some 1,274 lands have been allocated for governmental purposes, the ministry said.
The ministry acknowledged that there were some difficulties which limit the granting of more lands in some parts of the Kingdom including scarcity of land due to physical considerations such as the Asir and Baha regions and the intensity of residential land grant applications compared to the available lands, especially in major cities of the Kingdom such as Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam.
The ministry stressed that it was strictly committed to equality and transparency in the distribution of land grants through committees formed in all municipalities which were assigned to allocate lands to the eligible candidates publicly by using computer-based technology and supervised by the Ministry representatives and municipality council members.
It is to be recalled that the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has allocated some 238 locations on an area exceeding 169 million square meters for the Ministry of Housing which, in turn, will allow citizens to build housing units.
