Oriana Akiera Sato clinched the Team of the Week award during the 9th session marked by fluctuating fortunes and tough scoring in the FTBJ-ICBL 31st Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.
Oriana’s Team of the Week-winning total of 38 points was the lowest thus far in the Friday afternoon five-man team league event.
Hidada Ltd. and Pin Slashers matched cards of 34 points with bottom team Avengers and Oryx Jets likewise tied on 31 points.
Jem Strikers were alone in 7th place with 29 points followed by Lance & Thirdy 27 and Nasser Al Hajri 22. Taurus RDLR, D’ Barkads and Sky Freight-TFC brought up the rear on 21, 10 and 5 points in that order.
Managed by Mary Sato, Oriana bowlers are only the sixth different team to win an award with Oryx winning three straight and Al Hajri two times.
Amro Al Amri of Hidada claimed his second men’s Bowler of the Week award on 683 (232, 214,237).
Pin Slashers’ May Lourdes was the ladies Bowler of the Week, shooting the division’s high series of 203, 180 and 196.
With the three games contested each producing a different winner Oriana topped the overall output and was the most consistent of all the contenders on the day.
Sulaiman fired the second-best score of 666 at the head of the Oriana charge that also featured 615 from Matet Cavite and 553 from Margie Villasanta. Allan was the other player to roll full games on 542, while Alex Flora added 190-169 and team captain Ed Labuac 182.
Pinky Acato and Grace Siasoco shot 583 and 525 to back up Al-Amri at Hidada. With two games each were Rene Martinez 151-16, Nanding Siasoco 213-216 and Johndy Cantara 160-150.
Over at Pin Slashers, the third game winner, Rene Punzalan supported Lourdes with a 601 while Dariel Loquias made 595, Gary Raymundo had 579 and Aileen Miralbuna contributed 521.
For once, Avengers did better than most of the teams in the upper half of the standings thanks mainly to Sammy Ocampo who carded a solid 632.
From the distaff side, Myrna Diaz and Alma Baylon tallied 581 and 519 respectively, while Paul Antiporda had 588, Abet Sarte 227-184 and Fred Monson 162 for Avengers.
First game winner Jem Strikers had Jeff San Pedro and Pancho Cuevas leading the way on 647 and 612 while Jessica Fuentes tossed in 550 and Charie Guzman added 533.
