Government officials who fail their responsibilities should resign, said Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) Muhammad Al-Sharif.
Sharif made this call during a visit to Tabuk Province where he met with the province’s Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan and high-ranking officials on Monday.
“The Control and Investigations Bureau and Cabinet ministers are investigating a large number of corruption cases in government offices and developmental projects,” said Al-Sharif.
The Nazaha is also investigating the causes for delay in the completion of hundreds of projects in the country and if any corrupt official had a role in it.
The Kingdom’s position in the rating of Transparency International — a global organization that leads the fight against corruption — has not changed. The organization does not have the latest data on the Kingdom’s efforts to improve the situation, Sharif said.
“The Kingdom’s position remained at 440 this year; the same as in the past year. We will supply the required data to the organization on the current situation,” he said.
During a reception at the governor’s office Prince Fahd bin Sultan commended the Nazaha’s role in the country’s combat of corruption. The prince also assured the cooperation of the governorate and other offices under it with the Nazaha’s tasks, Al-Watan daily reported on Tuesday.
Meanwhile the Nazaha demanded the Ministry of Health to investigate why a health center in the Durra district in Abha city is housed in a dilapidated building with no safety arrangements or proper machineries and other facilities. The anti-corruption body also wanted to know why the cleaning workers are not paid regularly. The ministry should hold the responsible officials accountable for all the shortcomings in the health center.
