This refers to the column “M.J. Akbar: A renowned Indian journalist, author” (April 5) by Farouk Luqman. The article was excellent. Indeed, Akbar is one of the greatest journalists India has ever produced. The main quality of Akbar is that he analyzes any situation in a thoroughly professional way.
Apart from his professionalism, he has a good command of English language that makes him stand out from others. He has written a lot of articles, editorials, books, and has interviewed eminent personalities. I still remember very well when I was writing diploma in journalism exam in Mumbai, I was asked to write about my favorite journalist.
Since Akbar was my favorite journalist, I chose to write on him. Also, I had opportunities to listen to him in seminars, and exchanged thoughts with him through e-mails. I found him a very humble and knowledgeable person. Apart from working in various newspapers, he worked as editor in chief of Mid Day, the largest selling tabloid in India. It is a fact that analyzing and writing on Indian politics is not an easy job as Indian politics is complex in nature and very hard to write on. However, when we read Akbar’s articles on Indian politics we find them to be quite clear and emphatic. The importance Akbar’s articles can be understood by the impact they create in the political circles.
He wrote a series of articles that led the downfall of the Charan Singh government in 1977. Indeed, Akbar is a remarkable journalist and will be one of the topmost journalists of India, and above all, he has earned international fame and respect in the field of journalism. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
