Mid-level management at Indian schools in the Kingdom attended a one-day orientation workshop organized by the council of schools affiliated with India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The workshop was a brainstorming session with the theme “middle-level managers are the key to strengthening school effectiveness.” It was conducted at the International Indian School-Dammam (IISD). More than 75 vice principals, section heads and other senior officials from Indian schools in the Kingdom were present.
Abdullah Manjeri, academic coordinator of the IISD Managing Committee, urged school officials to take the lead in motivating teachers to shift from the traditional “tongue and ear” approach of teaching and turn to active and participatory learning, urging a transition from teacher-directed to self-designed and self-directed learning.
Six sessions were held during the day. “Motivating staff: The need of the hour” by Syed Masood Ahmed, principal of the International Indian School-Jeddah; “Types of leadership and leadership roles” by E.K. Mohammed Shaffe, principal and head of the institution, IISD; “CBSE guidelines on the daily routine of section heads and vice principals” by Syed Hameed, principal of the International Indian School in Jubail; “Interpersonal and human resource management” by Srinivasan Ramamurthy, corporate human resources program manager at Zamil Group Holding Company; and “My success anecdotes” by participating vice principals and section heads.
The workshop concluded with an “open house” in which all the participants shared their thoughts on the workshop. They said the sessions were useful and provided appropriate guidance to make their roles more pro-active and successful.
Shaffe coordinated the event. Lt. Col. J.A. Rocque, principal in-charge, Girls Section, welcomed the gathering and introduced the participants. Mahenaz Fareed anchored the proceedings.
