The Ministerial Committee Quartet in Saudi Arabia has unanimously agreed to increase the financial allocation for the education of Saudi children on scholarships abroad by 60 percent.
An official source explained that the committee, composed of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Education and Higher Education, has increased its recommendations based on a field report that has proven the substantial increase of tuition fees in schools for the children of scholarship students in countries across the globe. In addition, it states that the $ 8,000 worth of financial aid per student does not cover school and transportation expenses.
The source said that members of the ministerial committee have held several meetings and examined field reports from several countries, including the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, Ireland and other countries in Asia. They found there is a need to review the assessment of the financial allocations according to the average cost of study abroad and all associated services such as transportation.
It is noted that the Saudi cultural attaché compensates scholarship students through the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for scholarships abroad for the cost of their study programs while the cost of education for children of government employees and scholarship students abroad are borne by other government agencies.
