The Al-Ahsa municipality is installing an innovative underground hydraulic waste container system at commercial centers in the city. The first hydraulic dumpster was successfully installed earlier in the historical district of Hofuf.
Undersecretary for Service Affairs at the Al-Ahsa municipality, Abdullah Al-Arfaj, told the Saudi Press Agency that the first phase of the project includes the installation of 20 hydraulic containers in downtown Hofuf and Al-Mubarraz.
Al-Arfaj has said that the new waste containers each have a capacity of 600 liters, which is more than twice the volume capacity of the 240-liter traditional waste bin.
He said the hydraulic waste container has several special features. It gets rid of bad odors released from waste and it contains a fire extinguishing system that can suppress fires within the container area.
Al-Arfaj said the municipality aims to promote the overall aesthetic and environmental appearance of waste collection points. The new dumpsters will also make it easier for city sanitation workers to collect waste.
