The Embassy of Pakistan is organizing a job fair at the Pakistan International School in Nasiriya, Riyadh tommorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist community members seeking to find jobs and normalize their work status.
Speaking to Arab news, Syed Hammad Abid, community welfare attaché explained that the embassy has been hosting around five companies on a daily basis, but since the school campus accommodates a larger number of companies, the decision was made to hold a job fair at the school premises.
“We want to ensure the maximum participation of Pakistani workers seeking to normalize their work status before the end of the grace period. More than 50 companies in the green/platinum category have been invited to send their representatives for the purpose of interviewing and hiring Pakistani workers.”
Abid urged Pakistani workers who work for companies that fall under the red and yellow category as well as runaway workers, and Haj, Umrah and visit-visa over stayers who arrived to the Kingdom before July 2008 to attend the job fair, in order to legalize their status ahead of the amnesty.
Meanwhile, Mueenuddin Memon, another community welfare attaché at the Pakistani embassy said, “We have organized this job fair to address the grievances of our workers,” adding that 3,000 workers are expected to benefit from the fair.
Earlier, ambassadors from Asian countries including Pakistan requested the Saudi government to extend the amnesty deadline for the rectification of the workers status in the Kingdom. Saudi businessmen and economists have also joined the chorus demanding an extension of the July, 3 grace period, stressing an extension is essential for the completion of the correction process sought by nearly 2 million foreign workers.
