The Jeddah Passport Office processes 10,000 documents a day, said Brig. Husain Al-Harthi, general director of the Passport Office for Makkah Region.
“About 30 percent of citizens submit incomplete documents,” he said, adding that forgery is also on the rise. “The department detected 300 cases of forgery,” he said. “We have designated five branches to speed up the pace of work and avoid congestion.”
He also said that three tents have been erected at the Dallah Center to accommodate 900 people and that water, juices and meals are also available there.
Al-Harthi also dismissed claims that there is a shortage of staff, adding that the Passport Office has made necessary arrangements for additional staff to process documents.
“The Jeddah branch alone processes more than 10,000 documents a day,” he said.
He said that everyone can avoid long queues by availing of services on the Passport Office’s website, entitled “Absher”. The website allows users to process work permits, arrange exit/re-entry visas, final exit visas and travel permits, and provides answers to general enquiries.
