Unity of Ummah need of the hour: Zakir Naik

Unity among Muslims has been and will remain an imperative in every age, but it is the need of the hour at this crucial time as the community is divided into groups, which is weakening the very spirit of Islam, said Dr. Zakir Naik, a well-known Indian public speaker on Islam and comparative religion.
Naik said that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah considers unity of the Ummah a prime importance and has recently taken initiatives to organize an international conference for unity among different sects.
“Muslims today are divided among themselves. Such divisions are not endorsed by Islam. Therefore, Muslims in the whole world should unite and keep aside all differences to strengthen the community,” Naik said Tuesday while speaking at a program organized here by India Islamic Cultural Center (IICC).
He said that it is unfortunate that there is widespread disunity among the community not only in India but in the whole world and there is a dire need for unity.
He stressed the need for religious education along with modern education, as both are essential. It was with this motive that he started the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), a nonprofit organization that owns the Peace TV channel, based in Dubai, the UAE, and schools in India.
He said he was inspired by Ahmed Deedat, an Islamic preacher, whom he met in 1987 in South Africa.
Naik said that Peace TV, the largest Islamic channel in the world, has now reached a viewership of 100 million, whereas Peace TV Urdu’s viewership has reached 80 million.
IRF has also launched Peace TV Bangla, which has also reached its popularity in a short span of time.
