Pakistan: Soldier killed by India border firing

ISLAMABAD: Indian troops shot and killed one Pakistani soldier and injured another in an “unprovoked” attack across the countries’ disputed border in Kashmir, Pakistani Army said Saturday.
“A soldier embraced martyrdom while another was seriously injured due to unprovoked firing by Indian troops in Rawala Kot area at the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday,” the army said in a statement.
Kashmir, a Muslim-majority territory, is divided into Indian and Pakistani-administered sectors but is claimed in full by both sides. It has been the cause of two of three wars between India and Pakistan since independence from Britain in 1947.
A cease-fire has been in force along the Line of Control since 2003 despite sporadic violations on both sides. Separately, a Pakistani mountaineering official said three Spanish climbers have gone missing while trying to scale one of the world's highest peaks and are presumed dead.
Manzoor Hussain, who is president of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, told The Associated Press on Saturday that the expedition's Spanish coordinator had ruled that the three were dead.
He said the climbers went missing Monday while descending Gasherbrum-1 amid hostile weather. The expedition was still in the remote area and could not be reached.
Local tour operator Anwar Ahmed says a total of five Spanish climbers were on the expedition. He said two members of the Spanish team reached base camp with information of the other three's deaths.

Three Iranian climbers went missing in Pakistan earlier in the week.
