A new law that stipulates imposing multiple fines on people who violate waste disposal regulations has been approved by the local authorities and will be implemented soon.
Fines can reach up to SR10,000.
Fines will applicable on those who commit the following acts: Placing solid municipal waste outside special containers, stacking them up and collecting or storing waste in a way that harms public health or the environment.
Fines will also be imposed on people who move waste containers from allocated places, steal them, or use places allocated to the disposal of solid wasted without obtaining the permission from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.
Those who accumulate solid waste in streets, public gardens, other people’s property or dig through contents of solid waste containers will also be fined.
The law will impose fines of not more than SR20,000 for violators and force them to pay all expenses for committing the following offenses: Obstructing solid waste collection process, preventing individuals from using containers, creating solid waste collection points for commercial purposes without a regular license, placing dangerous health or industrial waste in municipal waste containers, or placing municipal waste in the path of floods and valleys.
Placing waste in wells, beaches or in sewage network system, and individuals who accumulate municipal waste, move, store, burn, process it or recycle it for unlawful benefit could also be fined.
