Saudi Lighting Company (SLC) with 20 confirmed participating teams launches its 2nd Conference Basketball Tournament dubbed Flash Cargo Cup on Friday, 2:30 p.m. at the Saudi Lighting Villa basketball court in the 2nd Industrial Area, New Senaya on the outskirts of Riyadh.
According to League Chairman Allan Villanobos and League Commissioner Nomer Mau George Kaka Villamena, Magdi Salah (GLC-HVF Manufacturing Manager), Narayana Madi (GLC-SLC Manufacturing Manager), Bernardo Misola (GLC Compound Supervisor) and Arnold Dela Cruz (Flash Cargo KSA General Manager) are expected to attend the event along with the league participants and basketball enthusiasts.
To highlight the event is the parade of 20 competing teams in the Inter-Company Bonafide category. First Conference MVP Renz Tengco will lead the oath of sportsmanship after which Villamena will declare the league open to be followed by the ceremonial toss of the ball by GLC-SLC executives and Dela Cruz. Butch Mendoza will be the master of ceremony.
Regular games will be played Saturdays to Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. onwards, with 2 games each day. Opening day games will be Saudi Lighting Company against a team to be decided in a draw while the second game will also be determined in a draw.
Besides Saudi Lighting teams entered in the Inter-Company Bonafide category are SVCP, Danya, National Glass, Sanabel, Al-Sharq, Kimberly Clark, ARI, Al Fanar Ceramics of coach Gerry De Claro, National Battery Company, Nafco, Middle East Cable, PepsiCo, Diet Center, PPC Packaging, Nardeen Lighting, Enaya Corporation, Kabbani, Saudi Ceramics and Zahid Tractor. Participating teams for the Non-Rated Commercial category are still to be finalized.
Flash Cargo KSA is the major sponsor of this tournament while Dyrup Paints through Danilo Morillo supports the league.
With Villanobos and Villamena in the Organizing Committee are Butch Mendoza, league Technical Committee head, and committee members Joel Arcodia, Arbie Felipe and Jonathan Maceda. Gene Condenato and Lito Narral are the league consultants. FCBR (Filipino Confederation of Basketball Referees) headed by Khalid Ed Tamayo is in charge of the tournament officiating.
