Better late than never

Finally the Dalai Lama has broken his silence over the killings of Muslims in Arakan province of Myanmar. Better late than never! The Buddhist monks or should I say terrorists should realize that their actions are in sharp contrast to the religious teachings. Before the statement of the Dalai Lama, many Buddhists refused to believe the reports of the widespread killings in Myanmar. But there perceptions about their brethren must have changed after the statement from their spiritual leader. Like any other religion, killing is prohibited in Buddhism as well. Now instead of merely paying lip service, the Dalai Lama should ensure that the reign of Buddhist terror ends in Myanmar and elsewhere. — Alwee Attas, Jeddah
