Teachers to be tested for drugs

The government plans to test all its employees for drugs to counter the increasing abuse of narcotics in the country's public service, according to local media.
The first phase of the tests would reportedly be conducted soon on newly recruited teachers. The Ministries of Health and Education, and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control would oversee the testing.
Sources said that the second phase would cover all teachers employed by the government, followed by all public sector workers. The testing procedures would be announced later, a source said.
Various government committees have reportedly studied the issue of universal testing of government workers.
Meanwhile, the Education Ministry has said that it would only pay extra allowances to employees if they were on official duty out in the field.
