DUBAI: Grab your wand and make sure your pet owl is set for the ride because Los Angeles-based mobile games studio Jam City has announced the launch date of the eagerly-anticipated new Harry Potter smartphone game.
The global launch date for “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery” has been confirmed as Wednesday, April 25 on both iOS and Android, but what is the raved-about new game going to consist of?
Developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, it is billed as the first mobile game where players can create their own character and experience life as a student at Hogwarts.
“Our goal with Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is to make players really feel for the first time like they’re attending Hogwarts,” Chris DeWolfe, co-founder and CEO of Jam City, said in a statement. “By including these iconic and incredibly talented actors in the game, we come one step closer to truly giving fans their own Hogwarts experience.”
In the adventure with role playing game elements, players will be able to create a personalized avatar, attend classes, learn magical skills and make friends — and enemies, giving many the chance to find and defeat their very own Draco Malfoy. Players will be allowed to make decisions that affect their character’s story and their quests within the framework of the game.
Actors from the Harry Potter films will provide voiceover work for Jam City’s mobile game, including British actress Dame Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall and Michael Gambon as Professor Dumbledore.
Jam City was founded in 2010 by MySpace cofounders DeWolfe and Aber Whitcomb, and former 20th Century Fox executive Josh Yguado. It is the creator of several social gaming franchises for mobile, including “Cookie Jam” and “Panda Pop.”
