JEDDAH: Fahad Al-Gharbi, the coach of the Jubbah youth football club, a third division club in the Saudi league, has saved a player’s life by donating one of his kidneys to him.
Youssef Al-Shammari, a footballer at the youth club, suffered from kidney failure, which compelled him to quit training. His coach then donated one of his kidneys to help him.
The coach’s action has received positive responses and was praised by Prince Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA).
Prince Abdul Aziz wrote on Twitter: “What the coach of the Jubbah youth football team, Captain Fahad Al-Gharbi, has done through donating a kidney to a player in his team is a humane and noble move … I ask God to reward him for his deed and I thank him for his humane attitude, which does not surprise me.”
In line with Vision 2030, the GSA established the Mass Participation Federation, which is the main body responsible for increasing participation in sports in the Kingdom.
