ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared staggering statistics related to Hajj 2019 in a video posted on Twitter on Friday, revealing how the Kingdom embraced people belonging to different cultures and ethnicities who performed the annual Islamic ritual this year.
In all, more than 2.4 million people from 130 countries performed their pilgrimage. About 75 percent of them arrived from foreign countries while 634,379 were domestic pilgrims. 44 percent of female worshippers also attended the religious event whereas nearly 4 percent of people participated in it from minority Muslim states in Europe and North and South America.
The Hajj is Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah, one of the holiest cities for Muslims across the world. It is also mandatory for all adult Islamic believers who are physically and financially capable of performing this religious duty at least once in their lifetime.
