Abu Dhabi Crown Prince: UAE stands firmly with Saudi Arabia in one trench
  • We are united to protect the security of Saudi Arabia and the UAE and the stability of the region, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed said

DUBAI: Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said on Wednesday that the United Arab Emirates stands firmly with Saudi Arabia “in one trench”, amid rising tensions between Yemeni forces in Aden.

The Crown Prince made a statement saying that the UAE and Saudi Arabia stand united in partnership to ensure the stability of the region.

“Our shared goals are security of the UAE and Saudi Arabia and stability of the whole region. We also share a common destiny and future,” Sheikh Mohammed said while opening a park in Abu Dhabi in memory of fallen Emirati soldiers.

His comments came as Yemeni government officials began talks with Yemen’s southern separatists of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Jeddah in a bid to end fighting in Aden and other southern provinces.

Both sides agreed to begin talks after Saudi Arabia called for dialogue in the Kingdom to restore calm to southern Yemen after fighting between the STC and government troops last month.

Emirati Minister of State of Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said on Wednesday that he was confident that the Jeddah meeting will succeed in uniting the two sides against what he called the “Houthi coup.”

He also thanked Saudi Arabia for “leading the coalition politically and militarily with care and skill.”
