DUBAI: Oman’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs called on shops to replace plastic shopping bags with environmentally friendly ones, as the country looked for innovative ways to fight the novel coronavirus.
The announcement came after the ministry revealed that new scientific studies warned that the virus stays on the surface of plastic and stainless steel for two to three days, local daily The Times of Oman reported.
The announcement came as the country’s newly formed Technological Innovation Committee to help counter COVID-19 was tasked to limit the spread of this virus by adopting IT solutions as modern alternatives in dealing with its impact.
The committee will undertake supervision of all IT initiatives directed to counter the disease and organize and direct specialized national IT solutions to curb the outbreak of the virus.
This will include: rapid diagnostic and epidemiological investigation, provision of medicine and remote health care, in addition to providing health and medication supplies and prevention techniques.
