Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Qasim, leading Saudi petroleum engineer

Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Qasim is a petroleum engineer and was recently selected to join the World Energy Council’s Future Energy Leaders Programme following a rigorous selection process at an international level.

He is a current and past member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Saudi Council of Engineers, the Innovation Ecosystem Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.

He received his bachelor’s degree in 2007 from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. In 2011 he got his master’s degree from the University of Texas and, five years later, obtained a doctorate from the University of Tulsa.

Since joining Saudi Aramco in 2007 Al-Qasim has been involved in applied research projects on enhanced/improved oil recovery, reservoir management, and production-related challenges. 

He has more than 30 patents, both granted and filed, and published over 25 papers, including those which have been peer reviewed, and deployed several new technologies.

He was recognized as one of Aramco’s top young innovators as part of an innovation week event that was held in December 2019, and was a finalist in the Energy Institute’s 2019 Young Energy Professional of the Year Award.

He has authored two books: “Optimizing Well Locations in Green Fields using the Fast-Marching Method” and “Simulation of Asphaltene Deposition during CO2 Flooding.”

He has been an editor for the Journal of Petroleum Science  and Engineering, and the Journal of Natural Gas Science & Engineering.
