DUBAI: American fashion label Michael Kors has announced Monday it has opted out of New York Fashion Week, which was scheduled to take place in September.

The decision was prompted by the lockdown restrictions imposed by nations worldwide as they try to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The label further announced that the designer will, from now on, produce two collections per year for the Michael Kors Collection, one for spring/summer and one for fall/winter, eliminating resort and pre-fall.

“I have for a long time thought that the fashion calendar needs to change,” Kors said in a released statement.

“It is imperative that we give the consumer time to absorb the fall deliveries, which will just be arriving in September, and not confuse them with an overabundance of additional ideas, new seasons, products, and images.”
