Everything you need to know about the Les Benjamins SS21 collection

Premium streetwear brand Les Benjamins has just unveiled its Spring 2021 collection. Read on for everything you need to know about the new offering.

  • Inspiration

This season, the Istanbul-based designer Bunyamin Aydin took a trip down the Silk Road, an ancient trade network that connected East Asia and Southeast Asia with East Africa, West Asia and Southern Europe and where silk, goods and cultures were exchanged. Hailing from a Turkish family known for its fine textiles, and with an upbringing surrounded by fabrics, designs and samples he was particularly well-equipped for the journey. “The Silk Road was historically critical for culture and trade, not only the trade of goods but ideas as well,’’ explained Aydin.

  • Color palette

The color palette was a harmonious mix of tangerine, terracotta, henna red, sandy gold and oceania in an effort to invoke the different colors found in the trade routes.

  • Artful prints

Aydin always tries to bring an international focal point to his streetwear concepts, so this season he commissioned British artist Neil Raitt to create two exclusive artworks inspired by the silk road, which were then printed onto trousers, shirts and jackets. Raitt, whose paintings are compositions of endlessly repeated cabins, mountains, ponds, trees and other natural motifs, sought inspiration from the caravans that would carry goods along with the vast network. “I enjoyed inventing the camels in painted form, and imagining the kind of goods they would be carrying, juxtaposing notions of luxury and labor,’’ said the artist. ‘’My paintings weave together different landscapes, with repeating mountains and map-like compositions.”

  • The clothing

The collection featured everything you could virtually think of. There were printed button-ups, oversized blazers, baggy jeans, casual dresses, vibrant zip-ups, cozy bomber jackets and a lineup of leather handbags. “My favorite are the Utility Pants featuring Neil Raitt’s exclusive print,” shared Aydin.

  • The pièce de résistance

A luxurious red jacquard dress and matching longline coat in a tapestry print and woven with gold were certainly the standout looks from the new collection.
