RIYADH: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has carried out work to improve the electrical network in Al-Jufaina camp in Marib governorate in Yemen.
The project was implemented in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), after the network caused several fires in the camp.
“On 3 April, a fire broke out in the Al-Jufaina camp accommodating internally displaced people in Marib governorate, resulting in the death of a child and the injury of five people,” the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.
The improvement works will benefit 8,000 families, KSrelief said in a statement.
The Saudi-based center added that it “seeks to reduce the risk of fire accidents and provide the basic needs of the displaced families in the camp, who number about 10,000 families, in the hope of alleviating the severity of the current humanitarian crisis they are going through.”
Meanwhile, KSrelief helped build three additional classrooms in the Governmental Cooperation School to support children and continue their education in Al-Maafer District in Taiz Governorate and to reduce overcrowding in schools.
The project was also done in cooperation with the IOM and comes within the framework of humanitarian projects provided by the Kingdom, represented by KSrelief, to support the Yemeni education sector, enhance educational opportunities for children, motivate them to join the educational system, and provide them with basic needs in order to create a conscious generation equipped with science and knowledge.
