ISLAMABAD: A joint military training exercise between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia concluded in Bahawalpur district in Pakistan's Punjab province on Tuesday, the military's media wing, ISPR, said.

Pakistan regularly trains Saudi officers and soldiers as part of a longstanding defense cooperation deal between the two countries.

“Joint training exercises between Royal Saudi Land Forces (RSLF) and Pakistani troops culminated at Khairpur Tamewali (KPT) [Bahawalpur],” ISPR said. “The training provided an excellent opportunity for the troops of both brotherly countries to enhance their tactical / technical skills and professional abilities through mutual exchange of respective operational experiences.”

Earlier this month, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia conducted a two-week-long joint military exercise at the National Counter-Terrorist Center in the mountain town of Pabbi in Punjab province, focusing on counter-terrorism operations, including cordon and search, combat patrols and dealing with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

In September last year, Saudi and Pakistani forces conducted the joint Naseem Al-Bahr 13 naval exercise in the Arabian Sea near Karachi, with Saudi F-15 aircraft participating in a missile firing drill for the first time.

In February, Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif visited Islamabad and, in a meeting with Pakistani counterpart Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, agreed to enhance cooperation to counter security challenges.
