Jeddah Marriott Hotel Madinah Road latest to join city’s burgeoning hotel scene

Jeddah Marriott Hotel Madinah Road is the latest high-end hotel destination to open in Saudi Arabia’s second largest city. Offering a prime location in the central business district, the two-tower premium destination opened its doors this week, nestled between the Kingdom’s two holy cities, Makkah and Madinah, and within close proximity to King Abdulaziz International Airport.

The location allows ease of access to the city’s commercial center and bustling waterfront Corniche, and is within walking distance of Jeddah International Exhibition and Conference Center.

Muntaser Allaf, general manager, Jeddah Marriott Hotel, said: “We are delighted to arrive in the city they call the ‘Bride of the Red Sea,’ with a premium hotel that sits in a coveted position within Jeddah’s business district. This is already an iconic hotel, with incredibly modern design elements both inside and out, beautifully contrasting the historic character of the city.”

Jeddah Marriott Hotel Madinah Road is the ideal place for holding meetings and conferences, as it has many halls equipped with the latest modern technologies to suit all needs for various occasions such as conferences, meetings, workshops, weddings and special events. The King Abdullah Sport City Stadium is also within close proximity.

The vast range of modern and spacious rooms all feature deep soaking bathtubs and walk-in showers, with floor-to-ceiling windows — with a residential aesthetic that provides a home away from home. The theme of illumination transcends the property with the expansive lobby comprising wide glass, for all-round daylight, lined with flourishing olive trees for a restful and serene visitor experience.

Nearby retail highlights include Mall of Arabia and Red Sea Mall, two of the city’s most popular shopping destinations. Then, when visitors have enjoyed a day of business, or retail pleasure, they can ascend to the state-of-the art executive lounge, M Club, with panoramic views and round-the-clock refreshments.

Alternatively, guests can make a moment for wellness with the premium Saray Spa, with well-equipped, discreet male and female sections — adjacent to the ladies-only salon, perfect for extended pampering.

Foodies will also be delighted by the gourmet offerings, such as Olive Tree, which tips its hat to the plant life featured in the lobby. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, guests can enjoy buffet dining all morning, along with international and Arabic favorites in the afternoon and evening. Alternatively, the Olive Terrace provides a vibrant al fresco ambiance, with snacks, fresh juices, and a variety of desserts and live cooking stations.

If guests need an early start, relaxing space to work their way through the day or need some well-deserved time to chill out, The Sky View is the ideal place to be — to enjoy a quality cup of coffee and unwind with friends. As the name suggests, some of the hotel’s optimal views can be enjoyed here, during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

New Splash collection gives fresh start to school

The summer break is almost over, and it is time to say hello to a new school year filled with excitement, hangouts, all-nighters spent cramming for a test, and hanging out with BFFs. Befitting the happy vibes, Splash has launched a “Back to School” collection that celebrates the little moments that make collegiate dressing one of the best fashion moments of one’s life.

Comfy essentials anchor the collection that has a mix of denim, casual tees, varsity jackets, skirts, formal pieces, and backpacks to set the teens on a stylish path from the ring of the first bell.

Converting favorite characters into wearable art — the key pieces are graphic in detail. Be it the monogram text reading Batman on a co-ord set or the quirky drawing of Mickey Mouse on the cuff of a ripped denim, the collection evokes the comfort of childhood with a quirky twist of style.

The formal pieces champion preppy aesthetics with a monochrome palette. Staples like V-neck vests, button-up shirts, and flared-leg pants create polished looks that work well for a presentation as well as for wearing on the first day of school.

With modish assortments of slogan tees, skirts and denim pants, the girls are armed with styles that create layering options, while the boys have choices inspired by streetwear trends that champion laid-back dressing with creative flair.

Rounding off the looks are the statement accessories: Backpacks. Built to carry everything — from books to lunch boxes — the backpacks feature roomy compartments with fun prints and characters adding to their appeal.

The Splash “Back to School” collection is now available to shop in stores and online at splashfashions.com

Zayed Sustainability Prize 2023 demonstrates global reach and impact

Following a successful four-month submissions phase, the Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE’s pioneering global award for recognizing excellence in sustainability, has officially closed entries for its 2023 awards cycle. More than 4,500 applications were received across the five prize categories of health, food, energy, water and global high schools, from a record 152 countries, demonstrating the prize’s growing global reach and impact.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize winners will be announced at the 2023 Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony, which will be held on Jan. 16, 2023 as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

The prize witnessed a 13 percent increase in submissions compared to last year from small- and medium-sized enterprises, nonprofit organizations and high schools. Total submissions from SMEs increased across all categories, underscoring a rising trend that SMEs are putting sustainability at the top of their agenda.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Jaber, UAE minister of industry and advanced technology and director general of the prize, said: “For the last 14 years, the Zayed Sustainability Prize has incentivized practical solutions to global challenges that deliver tangible impact at a community level around the world. Inspired by the commitment to sustainable development and humanitarian legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, the prize has improved the lives of 370 million people in 151 countries to date. This year, we have seen applications from a record number of countries across every category from health, food, energy, water and global high schools. I’m excited to see what creative solutions this year’s applicants will bring to the table, particularly as the UAE prepares to host COP 28 next year.”

“Given that we want to leverage COP 28 as a platform for inclusivity and practical outcomes, I am confident that the prize can help to deliver social and economic progress from across the private sector, small business community and an increasingly active and engaged younger generation,” he added.

This year’s submissions were more diverse than ever before, revealing climate change’s impact on every country across every continent. More submissions received this year came from developing nations in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, East Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and North Africa, which is an important indication of the growing participation of developing countries in the fight against climate change.

The top submitting countries included Kenya, India, China, Egypt, Brazil and the US.

Following the close of submissions, the prize now enters the evaluation stage. All entries will now be shortlisted by an independent research and analysis consultancy. A selection committee comprising globally renowned industry experts will then assess the qualified entries and shortlist the candidates. The third and final tier of the evaluation process is the jury, which will convene in October, to unanimously elect the winners in each category.

A summer of English learning adventure at British Council

Summer is quite long and leaves a big learning gap for children. Reinforcing core English classes can help ensure knowledge is retained whilst also learning new skills to ensure academic improvement. The British Council in Saudi Arabia has announced a new edition of its popular “Summer School” program that helps parents give their children the confidence and tools to succeed in an evolving world.

The program has been created to spark children’s imagination, so they can express themselves with confidence that goes beyond their English language skills. They can continue confidence building as well as learn teamwork and leadership skills

Every child will have the opportunity to learn contemporary life skills such as creativity, critical thinking and problem solving to improve their confidence and communication skills through fun and interactive lessons with the best English language experts.

Fully face-to-face, children will benefit from hands-on, interactive projects with special focus on real-world topics like artificial intelligence, gaming, ethical food and climate change, while discovering their own style and talents.

The fun, interactive, and inspiring learning module is for children of age 6-17 years, segregated into age groups of 6-11 years and 12-17 years to ensure age-appropriate learning and tasks.

The curriculum has been adjusted with a greater focus on a child’s overall development and honing their interpersonal skills to create more agile and adaptive individuals prepared to succeed in a globalized, always evolving world.

With small class sizes, children will get the best out of learning English because they are guaranteed attention and personal support from an expert teacher. The courses offer flexible start dates with five classes per week, three hours per day from beginner to upper intermediate levels.
