DUBAI: The Saudi Music Commission brought its “Marvels of Saudi Orchestra” world tour to Rome on Friday evening with a large-scale performance staged at the Temple of Venus and Rome within the Colosseum Archaeological Park.
The concert featured a special appearance by Andrea Bocelli in a showcase celebrating Saudi and Italian musical traditions.
The event brought together 32 musicians from the Saudi National Orchestra and Choir alongside 30 members of the Fontane di Roma Youth Orchestra, conducted by Marcello Rota. The program blended Saudi, Italian and international compositions, combining traditional Saudi music with globally recognised orchestral works in a cross-cultural performance designed to highlight artistic exchange between the two countries.
Traditional Saudi performing arts also formed a major part of the evening. A group of 55 performers presented cultural performances including Ardah Wadi Al-Dawasir, Al-Khatwa and Yanbaawi, with participation from the Theater and Performing Arts Commission.
Among the night’s highlights was “Al-Hijr and Rome,” a collaborative composition exploring historical and cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and Italy. Written by Saudi historian and academic Dr. Suleiman Al-Theeb, the piece reflected on centuries of cultural exchange and dialogue between the two civilisations.

Commenting on the event, Paul Pacifico said: “Presenting ‘Marvels of Saudi Orchestra’ at the Venus and Rome, Colosseum Archaeological Park is a landmark moment for Saudi music, and a powerful symbol of cultural dialogue. By bringing Saudi musicians together with renowned Italian artists and the Fontane di Roma Youth Orchestra on one of the world’s most historic stages, we are sharing our musical heritage with new audiences on one hand and building lasting creative partnerships that will shape the future of our music ecosystem, on the other".
Bocelli described the collaboration as “a beautiful expression” of music’s ability to connect cultures, according to a released statement.
The Rome stop is the latest international performance in the “Marvels of Saudi Orchestra” tour, which aims to introduce Saudi musical heritage to global audiences.
