DUBAI, 18 April 2006 — Qatar yesterday opened a two-day economic forum tackling economic reforms and investment initiatives, the Qatar News Agency QNA reported.

More than 1,100 high-profile delegates from the public and private sectors of 25 countries were attending the Doha forum to discuss booming opportunities in sectors like oil, gas, petrochemicals, power and water, tourism, banking and finance, and real estate.

The Qatar Economic Forum was opened by Energy and Industry Minister Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah who said Qatar had embarked on an impressive reform process that includes economic and social legislation focusing on developing oil and natural gas resources. Investment legislation allowed foreigners fully to own companies in some sectors, own real estate in some areas and have shares in companies registered in Doha Security Market.
