JIZAN, 15 September 2007 — Parents and relatives of a primary school student have asked the authorities to take tough action against a school headmaster and a teacher for allegedly abusing their child sexually.
The child, a second grader, complained to his parents that the two men sexually abused him. Arab News is withholding the name of the school out of concern for potential legal repercussions.
Police arrested the headmaster and the teacher to question them soon after receiving the complaint. The child underwent medical tests at Jizan Public Hospital to check for physical evidence.
A special panel questioned some students of the same class to know more about the behavior of the teacher.
“We are taking this matter seriously,” said an official at the directorate.
The uncle of the student, meanwhile, expressed his surprise over allowing the teacher to continue working at the school despite the crime he committed.
He urged the authorities to take strong action against the teacher which would deter others from committing similar crimes.
