The program, called the “Prince Salman Program for Loyalty,” is aimed at initiating a partnership between KSU and philanthropists, alumni and students to fund endowments for university projects.
Speaking at the launch, Prince Salman, who is also chairman of the Supreme Committee for KSU Endowments, recalled that from the time of King Abdul Aziz, the Kingdom’s leaders have been undertaking charitable acts to develop various sectors.
He added that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, have helped many needy people.
Stressing the significance of endowments, Prince Salman said: “The contributions will go a long way to build a knowledge-based society.”
The meeting was attended by Prince Khaled bin Sultan, assistant minister of defense and aviation for military affairs, KSU Rector Dr. Abdullah Al-Othman, members of the royal family, senior government officials and KSU staff.
Under the new loyalty program, donors will be allowed to contribute to the fund from their monthly salaries through direct debit.
The program will also seek media support to publicize its activities so that donors and recipients can be kept informed of its activities. It will also solicit assistance from people who would like to volunteer in the university’s various programs.
Under the program, a marketing team will be formed to organize events such as exhibitions and conferences, campaigns, TV commercials and meetings.
In his speech, Al-Othman said the aim of the endowments is to increase the use of university resources.
“We wish to support university hospitals in the treatment of chronic diseases, update university laboratories and promote philanthropy and social solidarity,” he said.
Al-Othman added that with the support of Prince Salman, the university endowments fund was able to realize SR3 billion in its first phase.
He added that the university’s ongoing construction project includes nine towers, a seven-star furnished apartments block, conference halls, malls, a five-star hotel and a medical tower close to the city medical college.
Following the speeches, the rector signed sponsorship agreements with Mohammed bin Hussein Al-Amoudi, Dr. Nasser bin Ibrahim Al-Rashid, Sheikh Saleh Kamel, Abdullah bin Ahmad Bugshan, the Binladin Group, Al-Rajhi Bank and Al-Rashid Trading & Contracting Co., Ltd.
