“Five rescue teams were sent to the collapsing house. Twelve Asian workers residing in the building were rushed out of the building for fear of total collapse of the house," Capt. Abdullah Al-Amri, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Makkah Province, told Arab News.
“They also disconnected the power supply to the building. As a precautionary measure the building has been cordoned off.” About 8,000 buildings are under the threat of collapsing, according to an earlier statement issued by Jeddah's Municipal Council.
This is the second building collapse in Jeddah this month. Six Somali children were killed in a downtown district after an apartment building collapsed on May 1.
