Television footage taken by helicopter showed several houses ablaze Sunday near Perth in Western Australia.
Fire authority spokesman Rick Tyers said about 100 people were told to evacuate their homes as authorities tried to contain the blaze, which started Saturday night and had scorched about 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of forest land by Sunday.
The state Fire and Emergency Services Authority said it had reports of homes lost in the fire but could not confirm them while efforts to battle the blaze were under way.
There were no reports of injuries.
Australia is also still recovering from massive floods and a typhoon in the vast country’s northeast.
