Most housemaids become freelancers without sponsors. They are free to work for those who pay higher wages. Then they run away after stealing valuable items.
Do not bother searching for them because they will simply vanish. I used to have Indonesian and Filipino housemaids. I paid them SR1,800 a month each. However, they ran away and I could not find them.
I was forced to hire another one from her sponsor, but she also ran away after only one week of service and disappeared as usual.
As my wife and I were getting older we were in desperate need of a housemaid. We cannot manage without them. I read in the newspaper that housemaids’ monthly wage reach SR3,500 during the month of Ramadan and due to the ban on recruiting domestic help from some countries.
Visa fees have risen to SR13,000 even before the recruiting ban. What should we do? I think the solution lies in leasing housemaids and paying them on an hourly basis.
The recruitment company in charge should be responsible for the housemaids’ behavior if they steal.
