The foundation is chaired by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal and vice chaired by Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel.
Founded in 2006, the Gerhart Center works with an array of partners to strengthen the culture and effectiveness of philanthropy in the Arab world.  The center strengthens institutional philanthropy through research, building leadership capacity and providing tailored peer learning and other support services to philanthropic institutions in the region.
In March 2010, Prince Alwaleed also inaugurated the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Hall at AUC accompanied by Princess Ameerah.
In 2003, the prince made a donation of $10 million to finance the construction of the Humanities and Social Sciences building in AUC’s new campus and the Center for American Studies and Research, the first of its kind in the region.
